Congratulations, Senpai Ben, on your 2nd Dan

We'd like to congratulate Senpai Ben on his successful grading to 2nd Dan. This has been long overdue, and he just had to get on and do it! He also got his Level B AMAC referee certificate last year at the AMAC Australian Titles, which qualifies him as an International Referee.

Nov/Dec Grading Results

I'm very pleased say that for the final grading of the year, we had the largest number of students grading to date at Kuro Obi, and the results too are very pleasing. There was a total of 26 students grading, among which there were no less than 3 double gradings. The dojo is starting to get very colourful! Click the read more link to see the full results.

17-18th November - AMAC Australian Titles

These were quite successful for us - given that we only had relatively few people competing. Senpai Ben got his Class B International Judge and Referee Certificate, Alex Vij won the full-contact colts division, Tom Britton got 2nd in Forms (beaten only by another IFKKA student), and Natalie Belousova got two 4ths and and 3rd, and some of the kids did very well too - including a 1st place in point sparring, and a 2nd place in Showmanship.

Kuro Obi sweeps the Interclub Champions Awards!

The IFKKA Interclub Championships are a series of 3 mini-tournaments, just for students of the IFKKA dojo. Competitors get points for attending, more points for placing, and negative points for signing up but not turning up. They also have to have competed in at least 2 of the 3 tournaments through out the year. Kuro Obi Dojo did exceptionally well this year due to its dedicated students.

24th November 2012 - End of Year party and Interclub Champions

The IFKKA EoY party was a great success, with almost 140 people turning up to have a couple of hours fun bowling. The food wasn't the best (nutritionally speaking) but how can you go wrong with deep fried fish, chicken, calamari, and potatoes! To be fair, there were some celery sticks and fruit too. We'll have to see about getting something better next time - we did not manage the menu in this instance.

The REALLY good news is however that as a consequence of a high participation rate, Kuro Obi students made an almost a clean sweep of the End of Year IFKKA Interclub Champions Awards. That's not to say it was just the numbers - they also competed well! Full results are HERE.
